We are thrilled to announce the recent journal publication, “Design and Performance of a Shallow Geothermal Energy-Supplemented Bridge Deicing System on an In-Service Bridge in North Texas,” in the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering by Aditya Deshmukh, EIT, Dr. Anand Puppala, Dr. Puneet Bhaskar, Dr. Xinbao Yu, Alireza Fakhrabadi, and Dr. Gang Lei.
The study demonstrates the design, installation, and performance of a shallow geothermal energy-based bridge heating system deployed on an in-service bridge in North Texas during the winter events of 2024. The design and construction details of the system are based on an extensive laboratory experimental program scaled to a full-scale bridge. The performance assessment is based on an extensive network of sensors installed from 8 ft. to 275 ft. below the ground. The study presents valuable insights into the full-scale implementation and performance of bridge heating technology based on shallow geothermal technology.
