Dr. Puppala’s Visit to Geotechnical Laboratories at Cambridge, UK

Posted on July 31, 2025 by Avinash Gonnabathula

In early July of 2025, Dr. Puppala visited University of Cambridge in UK. He visited multiple research laboratories and held meetings and discussions with Prof. Abir Al Tabbaa and Prof. Gopala Madabhushi. During his visit he also met with Dr. Abbas Solouki, a Future Roads Fellow at Cambridge. Dr. Puppala served as an international member on his research committee, who has been researching geopolymers under the guidance of Prof Al Tabbaa. The Future Roads is a Fellowship Program at Cambridge University, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. The program is intended to foster excellence in experienced researchers’ training, mobility and career development in advanced research into the digital and sustainable transformation of road networks.

Dr. Puppala also visited Prof. Gopal Madabhushi and toured the laboratories at Geotechnical Laboratories at the Schofield Centre. Prof. Madabhushi is the Director of Schofield Center and Head of the Geotechnical program at Cambridge. The tour included all the excellent facilities such as centrifuge and shake table along with some innovative research being conducted in seismic areas. Along with Prof. Stuart Haigh, they also discussed the upcoming CREST 2026 event that will be taking place in Cambridge on Sept 7-8, 2026. ISSMGE Technical Committee TC 307 is one of the sponsors of the conference event. Again, I thank Gopal, Abir and Stuart for spending their valuable time and showing the excellent facilities during my visit.
