Congratulations Dr. Jungyeon (JJ) Jang!
Dr. Jungyeon (JJ) Jang, well known among his peers as Jay Jay, grew up in Dongducheon, a very small town in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, and lived with his grandparents, parents, and relatives. During his childhood, he enjoyed his trips to nearby mountains and rivers to observe and collect various species of insects and plants. Civil Engineering means soil and wood in Korean. Jay Jay used to be fascinated by the idea of building a house using only soil and wood, so he used to collect various natural construction materials like clay and tree logs during his trips to the mountains.
His father, who always patiently answered his questions, is his inspiration. At difficult times, he still remembers his father’s quote “It’s not difficult for someone to accomplish something. It’s only difficult to go on a new path.”
His research works are focused on understanding the application of geopolymers for stabilizing problematic soils and ultimately helping communities with a comfortable living environment and a healthy life. He got his doctorate and recently joined as a Staff Engineer at Terracon, Houston. Outside of work he enjoys spending time and creating memories with his loving kid and wife.
