Biography
Fonjo Desmond Ngwayu is a Ph.D. student and Student Assistant in Dr. Puppala’s Research Group at Texas A&M University. With a diverse background in structures, civil engineering practices, technical education, and teaching, Fonjo brings international and multidisciplinary perspectives and expertise to the team. He obtained both his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Civil Engineering from the National Higher Polytechnic Institute of the University of Bamenda, Cameroon, one of the leading Engineering Schools in the country, and graduated with a First-Class Honors, showcasing his hard work, dedication, commitment, and excellence. His research interests include geotechnical engineering analysis and design, structural analysis and design, material testing (laboratory practice and experimentation), field work and sustainable construction methods. His engineering formation equipped him with valuable experiences through several internship, laboratory practice, open-door day, and research opportunities.
Fluent in English and French, along with several native dialects, Fonjo values cross-cultural collaboration and knowledge sharing in engineering applications. He has demonstrated leadership skills through various roles, including serving as President of the Higher Technical Teachers Training College Students Association, and has contributed to major engineering projects throughout Cameroon.
Fonjo is also a Registered Civil Engineer with the Cameroon National Order of Civil Engineers (NOCE-ONIGC), a Student Member of both the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Geo-Institute of ASCE, a Millennium Campus Fellow and an SDG 4 Advocate. As a recipient of the Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering Excellence Fellowship and the Lean Sigma Yellow Belt Scholarship, he is committed to advancing research and making significant contributions in Civil Engineering as a whole, and Geotechnical Engineering in particular, under the supervision of Dr. Puppala, while addressing practical challenges in the field.
